Therapy Focus Areas
Pacific Shores Recovery believes in whole-person healing: mind, body, soul and spirit. Our residential and outpatient addiction treatment approach teaches clients to be self-aware in each of these areas, whether they are recovering from drug and alcohol addiction or managing a dual diagnosis. Our Orange County addiction treatment center provides programming and therapies for every facet of the recovery journey.
Spirituality & Recovery
We begin by encouraging a shift from self-focus to Higher-Power focus. Using meditation to help clients connect to their Higher Power, this process improves the understanding of surrender and aligns with the 11th step: “Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God, as we understood him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.”
As part of fostering a spiritual connection, Pacific Shores encourages clients to commit to moral and ethical behavior. Addiction pushes ethics to the background, but recovery returns them to the foreground. Our addiction specialists teach the importance of living an honest, substance-free life.
Relationships & Codependency
Many individuals seeking substance abuse treatment also face relationship and codependency issues. During process groups and life-skills workshops, Pacific Shores teaches clients to avoid people-pleasing, overcome unhealthy control patterns, develop personal and relational boundaries, and communicate proactively rather than reactively. Most importantly, we provide men and women with the tools needed to manage relationships in a healthy way. While many behavior patterns are ingrained over years of practice, it is possible to make constructive changes and replace unhealthy patterns.
Self-Esteem Building
Developing healthy self-esteem and self-worth is key to successful sobriety. Our life-skills coaches teach clients how to experience and process feelings, circumvent guilt and develop improved self-esteem. During self-esteem training, participants also learn how to say “no” to substances, sexual abuse and unhealthy requests or relationships by asserting and expressing themselves in respectful, constructive ways.
Anger Management & Trauma
Many people recovering from chemical dependency struggle with appropriate anger expression. At Pacific Shores, our therapists and counselors teach men and women to:
- Calm down before allowing anger to take over.
- Express anger in a constructive manner.
- Find solutions to problems by viewing things in a different way.
- Achieve self-control over frustration & emotions.
Trauma is also common in patients with behavioral health and substance misuse disorders. Pacific Shores Recovery provides the tools to work through traumatic feelings and PTSD symptoms like nightmares, sadness, guilt, anger, denial or anxiety. Many of our clients use drugs or alcohol to escape the trauma they have experienced, so our credentialed team provides coordinated trauma counseling and addiction treatment services.
Help for Legal Issues in Addiction
The Pacific Shores team has decades of collective experience helping clients navigate the judicial system. Services include:
- Taking clients from the judicial system into our care
- Alternative sentencing at our Orange County treatment center (to prevent jailtime)
- Legal advocacy (helping clients understand & face the legal system)
Dual Diagnosis Treatment
It is common for chemically dependent clients to struggle with mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety or sex and intimacy issues. Our accredited facility treats substance use disorders alongside dual diagnoses for optimal success. Each person faces different health conditions and life circumstances, so we carefully tailor treatments to the unique needs of clients while offering access to physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists and counselors.
