The mission of Pacific Shores Recovery is to provide safe and sober transitional housing and sober living for persons that have experienced alcohol and/or drug addiction related problems.

Medication-Assisted Treatment

In certain circumstances, medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is a vital tool used in addiction treatment. Though the goal is always abstinence-based recovery, medications are sometimes needed to ease withdrawal symptoms and establish a baseline for recovery.

Determining whether a person should be given medication requires an assessment by addiction treatment professionals. At Pacific Shores Recovery, we evaluate each of our clients to develop a plan that we believe best positions them for recovery. Our physician, counselors and detox staff have years of experience that help inform their decisions about the use of medication in your treatment.

When is Medication-Assisted Treatment Most Effective?

Medication is sometimes necessary in detox, the first step of recovery for many of our clients. Detox cleanses the body of harmful chemicals. Depending on the substances a client has been using, the length of their use and other factors considered by our staff, medication could help ease withdrawal symptoms and make detoxification easier.

In special cases, Naltrexone, Subutex, Suboxone or Buprenorphine could be administered to stabilize a client and provide a foundation on which recovery is built. MAT is occasionally used to prevent relapse, though the objective is sobriety without the assistance of any medication. Everyone’s needs are different, so our staff carefully considers each variable to determine whether MAT is the preferred option.
